Stephen Miller Is A Bad "American"

Names
Zilu: The Duke of Wei has asked for your opinion in how to rule his realm. He’ll call you for an audience any time. What will be the first thing you tell him?

Confucius: Oh, that he must fix the names.

Zilu: What? That? Oh come on, master, what does that even mean. “Fix the names”. I don’t get it.

Confucius: Shut up, you stupid brat, and listen. It is like this. If the names aren’t correct, what you speak becomes nonsense. If you speak nonsense, you can’t get things done. If you don’t get things done, you can’t get the rituals to work. If the rituals don’t work, the law isn’t applied as it should. If the law isn’t applied as it should, the people can’t make a productive living. When a ruler names something, he must be able to make sense when talking about it. And when talking about it, he must be able to do what he means.
The title of the prior post is Stephen Miller Is A Bad "Jew". Jewish leftists have redefined Judaism as leftism. This is a good bait and switch because if you attack Jews you are an anti-semite. Something like #FakeJews is a meme waiting to happen on the Jewish #AltRight. Also We Predicted It: The New Generation Of Nationalists Support Israel. A rectification of names is coming.

A much bolder gambit is underway from the cuckservatives. George Will tries to redefine America and says: Trump rejecting Lincoln’s affirmation of Founders’ vision. He even concludes by effectively calling Stephen Miller a bad "American."
With Trump turning and turning in a widening gyre, his crusade to make America great again is increasingly dominated by people who explicitly repudiate America’s premises. The faux nationalists of the “alt-right” and their fellow travelers like Stephen Bannon, although fixated on protecting America from imported goods, have imported the blood-and-soil ethno-tribalism that stains the continental European right. In “Answering the Alt-Right” in National Affairs quarterly, Ramon Lopez, a University of Chicago Ph.D. candidate in political philosophy, demonstrates how Trump’s election has brought back to the public stage ideas that a post-Lincoln America had slowly but determinedly expunged. They were rejected because they are incompatible with an open society that takes its bearing from the Declaration of Independence’s doctrine of natural rights.

With their version of the identity politics practiced by progressives, alt-right theorists hold that the tribalism to which people are prone should not be transcended but celebrated. As Lopez explains, the alt-right sees society as inevitably “a zero-sum contest among fundamentally competing identity groups.” Hence the alt-right is explicitly an alternative to Lincoln’s affirmation of the Founders’ vision. They saw America as cohesive because of a shared creed. The alt-right must regard Lincoln as not merely mistaken but absurd in describing America as a creedal nation dedicated to a “proposition.” The alt-right insists that real nationhood requires cultural homogeneity rooted in durable ethnic identities. This is the alt-right’s alternative foundation for the nation Lincoln said was founded on the principle that all people are, by nature, equal.
Will gets much wrong here.

Power is a zero sum game. The more powerful the state becomes, the more zero sum games like economics become (because the state invades every corner of your life). Cuckservatives like Will failed to stop the growth of the state, which is the only way to reduce the influence of zero sum political games. The trajectory of debt and entitlement spending says the whole nation will become a zero sum game within a generation or two because how this debt is defaulted on will greatly determine how wealth is redistributed.

Lincoln wanted to send former slaves back to Africa. Few abolitionists considered blacks equal to whites. The Founders fundamentally understood that people were not equal. A flowery turn of phrase does not make a creed anymore than a poem makes immigration policy. If Will is talking about equality in broader terms than "equality before the law" and other limited concepts, he is a communist.

Will doesn't understand the Alt-Right. The red pill doesn't say that tribalism replaces a "creed," but that most people who believe in this creed are from certain ethnic backgrounds. Some on the Alt-Right descend into base tribalism, but Will isn't impressing by smashing pinatas. The American creed is not universal, but tribal. If you believe in a creedal nation, then there should be some test for adherence to the creed. Do you support property rights? Do you support free speech? Do you support gun ownership? If George Will goes on an anti-communist rampage then I will believe him. Instead, he believes in a creed whose adherents are 80-90% white, who overwhelmingly vote Republican every election, and which is increasingly losing its place in American society as progressive ideology replaces it.

It's true that many on the Alt-Right (in the broadest sense of the term) reject the creed in part or in whole. However, it's not clear that a creedal America couldn't survive by turning the ratchet right. Any "creedal" "proposition nation" conservative could out-flank the Alt-Right or at least create a viable alternative. Launch a political inquisition against people who disagree with the Founders. Such a campaign might remove a healthy chunk of Scandanavian, Italian, Irish, Jewish, African, Asian and Latin American immigrants and their descendants either physically through deportation, or politically through a new standard for participation in politics. Will proposes no defense of the creed though. All he does is strike out at former allies who have taken the red pill and realized the end of Will's road is the death of America, the death of the creed, and possibly a gulag. "You guys are just like the progressives!" Yes, the progressives won George. Identity politics dominates now because of diversity. The overlap between identity and ideology is large. If you act on your beliefs, Mr. Will, you will become Alt-Right. If you do not, you are a cuckservative surrendering the field to progressives. The Alt-Right is inevitable.

The attempt at redefining America as post-Lincoln equality has already failed. George Will and other cuckservatives are selling a dead parrot. Whatever name you give a dead parrot, it's still dead.

  1. Although I hold not brief for the founding fathers who were just a little too Jacobin for me, at least they had a little racial and ethnic nationalism in their bones. Lincoln did turn the US into a purely abstract ideological state which was a bad thing.
