Coulter Still Steamrolling

Obamacare Wasn't the Big Decision Today

Since people tend to self-segregate, this ruling will allow for a never ending stream of lawsuits.

Worse than Obamacare: SCOTUS upholds 'disparate impact' as discrimination
In a friend of the court brief, the Mortgage Bankers Association and other industry groups argue that “the risk of disparate-impact lawsuits…pressures the residential mortgage lending industry to arrive at particular outcomes and end numbers” such as making loans to borrowers based on racial factors rather than on typical underwriting criteria such as a borrower’s salary or credit score.

The Worthless Media

If you get your Catholic news from the progressive media you will have a very distorted view of the Pope.

The Other Francis: The One Who Preaches Chastity Before Marriage

In an interview with “la Repubblica” and a commentary in “Il Foglio,” he has said that the profound meaning of the encyclical can be grasped only when to “Praised may you be” is added “my Lord.” Because the ultimate cause of the behavior that leads to environmental degradation “is sin, the loss of God,” while the proximate cause “is the exaggerated consumerism induced in order to compensate for the collapse of the birth rate in Western countries.” Of this proximate cause, he added, “I have found no satisfying explanations in the encyclical, probably because I read it in a hurry.”

If one reads “Laudato si’” with patience, in fact, one passage that coincides with the ideas of Gotti Tedeschi is there, in paragraph 50:

“Instead of resolving the problems of the poor and thinking of how the world can be different, some can only propose a reduction in the birth rate. At times, developing countries face forms of international pressure which make economic assistance contingent on certain policies of ‘reproductive health’… To blame population growth instead of extreme and selective consumerism on the part of some, is one way of refusing to face the issues.”
Then there's the response to the Irish homogamy vote:
Because so far the same silence has also punished all the other position statements of Pope Francis on these topics.

The proof is that the only big controversy of global dimensions that recently erupted over such a matter was centered not on the pope but on his secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

It was the controversy ignited by his succinct judgment on the ‘yes’ victory in the Irish referendum on homosexual marriage: “A defeat of humanity.”
Follow the link above for many more statements the media will never tell you about.

SJWs Are Narcissists

Diagnosed With Liberalism
I spoke to Amier Carmel, a psychoanalyst here in New York who works with severe mental illness. “If someone walks into my office and immediately presents me with trauma,” he says, “it usually means there is some underlying toxic dynamic behind this trauma.” He describes the cry-bullies as people with “an intense need to control” and says that “the resentment associated with this need to correct is often an induced feeling used to fix another problem.”

Amier calls PC violations “narcissistic injury” and adds that this fear-driven petulance becomes especially dangerous when the ideology becomes someone’s entire identity.

Fire Every Government Worker Compromised By the OPM Hack

The OPM hack should be used to clean out the State Department, DoD and other national security related agencies. Not only for the incompetents directly involved, but in order to clear the decks for a complete overhaul. The only uncompromised government workers don't currently work for the U.S. government, they have to be hired.

Incompetence
A consultant who did some work with a company contracted by OPM to manage personnel records for a number of agencies told Ars that he found the Unix systems administrator for the project “was in Argentina and his co-worker was physically located in the [People’s Republic of China]. Both had direct access to every row of data in every database: they were root. Another team that worked with these databases had at its head two team members with PRC passports. I know that because I challenged them personally and revoked their privileges. From my perspective, OPM compromised this information more than three years ago and my take on the current breach is ‘so what’s new?'”

Handel's Haus: Bullied and Badgered, Pressured and Purged

Africa, Our Traditionalist Ally

Some German bishops in the Catholic Church have been pushing for changing Catholic teaching on divorce and homosexual marriage. Opposition has been widespread:
However, a German cardinal has lambasted fellow church leaders who support admitting divorced and civilly remarried Catholics to receive communion, calling them heretics who are putting the unity of the Catholic Church at risk.

Cardinal Walter Brandmüller, a former head of the Vatican’s commission for historical sciences, said those who support such a change are "irresponsible" and "in contradiction to the teaching of the church."

Erdo said he is also convinced the issue of making it easier to get an annulment will be "adequately addressed."

Now the bishops are meeting in the Synod:
2014-2015 Synods Of Bishops On The Family
What is the Synod of Bishops?

The Synod of Bishops is a permanent institution of the Catholic Church. It was established by Pope Paul VI in 1965, shortly after the close of the Second Vatican Council, to continue the spirit of collegiality and communion that was present at the Council. The Synod is an assembly of bishops from around the world who assist the Holy Father by providing counsel on important questions facing the Church in a manner that preserves the Church's teaching and strengthens her internal discipline.

Synod. Africa’s Hour
After describing the unprecedented evaporation of the Christian faith that has taken place in Germany in recent decades, Professor Ade's talk focused on what he called “the strategy of the Germans.”

Given that the maximum objectives of the blessing of second marriages and of homosexual couples appear to be out of reach, this “strategy” would consist of opening loopholes that could be expanded later, naturally while affirming in words that there is no intention to change anything about doctrine.

These loopholes would be, for example, the “particular cases” illustrated by the innovators, knowing very well that they would by no means remain isolated cases.

Another clever stratagem would be that of presenting the changes as a solution “of balance” between the impatience, on one side, of those who would like divorce and homosexual marriage right away, and on the other the rigorism devoid of mercy of the discipline of the Catholic Church on marriage.

Yet another loophole would be that, already in use in many places, of giving communion to the divorced and remarried and to all couples outside of marriage, without even waiting for any decision on this matter on the part of the synod and the pope.

Moreover, Professor Ade warned against the “Trojan horses” adopted by the innovators, like that of always attributing a positive value to all relationships of life in common outside of marriage, or that of considering indissolubility as an “ideal” that cannot always be attained by everyone, or yet again of the use of new language that ends up changing the reality.

Ade’s talk was highly appreciated by the bishops and cardinals present. So much so that there are traces of it in the final statement, where it says that “we must begin from the faith, reaffirm it and live it for the sake of evangelizing cultures in depth,” taking care not to adopt or legitimize “the language of the movements that are fighting for the destruction of the family.”
The Africans bishops recognize all the SJW and progressive tricks and are willing to oppose them down to what many Westerners may regard as minutiae. This is how you battle SJWs and progressives. There can be no compromise on Truth and no issue is too small.

They even use a bit of judo on the progressives:
“Why should we think that only the Western vision of man, of the world, of society is good, just, universal? The Church must fight to say no to this new colonization."

The Economist Triggered By Effective Anti-Democratic House of Lords

A democratic embarrassment
And, among the seniles, they have many eminent minds for this work, including razor-sharp judges appointed as independents. As a result—and even after stuffing the chamber with their grateful supporters—the Labour governments lost around 500 votes in the Lords, typically on issues pertaining to civil liberties, of which the peers have come to consider themselves custodians.

Such defeats are manageable; the Lords cannot kill legislation, but at most delay it for a year. Nonetheless, this dissent proved sufficient to stop Labour extending detention without charge to 42 days and ending trial by jury in some cases, among other foiled draconian measures. Under the recently deceased Tory-led coalition, the Lords were less obstructive, reflecting the government’s less authoritarian programme, as well as the vast majority it got from the combined weight of Tory and Liberal Democrat peers. But, unhappily for David Cameron, the Tory prime minister, this is about to change. Having won a majority in the Commons, the Tories have been reduced to a minority in the Lords. And there is much in their legislative programme, including the promised “in-out” referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union and a putative new British bill of rights, that many peers dislike.

Anxious Tories seek comfort in the so-called Salisbury convention, by which the Lords refrains from opposing the government on its manifesto commitments. Yet the Lib Dems, obliterated in the Commons and bitterly resentful of their Tory assassins, are minded to disregard it. “People speak quite glibly about the Salisbury convention,” says Lord Wallace, a former Lib Dem minister who now leads the party’s 102 peers. “But it’s outlived its relevancy. It was established in a completely different world.” It seems the Lib Dems view their outsized representation in the Lords as a means to maintain their prominence, replenish their frontbench, and push a liberal agenda. “We’re going to have to do some of the heavy lifting,” Lord Wallace admits.

...An overcrowded, flatulent, but increasingly effective House of Lords—that is not such a bad deal. All the same, it is unsatisfactory, and will become more so. The signs are that the Lords will continue to grow more activist, further straining the limits of its dubious mandate. The assembly needs more democracy. More pressingly, it also needs a cull.
So close, yet so far.

Jenner Is A Man and Dolezal Is White, Or Jenner Is Whatever She Wants and Dolezal Is Whatever She Wants

As near as I can tell, the progressive/SJW/libertarian argument for why Jenner is OK and Dolezal isn't is because Jenner is honest, but Dolezal lied.

This is a total non-sequiter.

The issue at hand isn't whether Dolezal lied, it's whether anyone can in fact claim to be transracial.

Genetically speaking, a person can probably present more evidence of being transracial than transgender. Not only that, but race is also expressed culturally. When Bill Clinton claimed to be the first black president, he wasn't talking about his skin color or having sickle cell. If you decided tomorrow to declare you were Japanese, moved to Japan and seriously made an effort to "be" Japanese, I'd say you could definitely make a much stronger case for "being" Japanese than a transgender can make for being the other gender, perhaps with some exceptions. That is to say, ANYONE could probably "pass" or "assimilate" into another culture to the point at which the locals would say you are one of them.

The Left has a problem because of their claims of gender (race!) fluidity and rejection of science.

If race and gender are social constructs, then Jenner can be a woman and Dolezal can be black, AS CAN ANYONE AND EVERYONE ELSE.

Instead of confronting their internal contractions, the Cathedral is whipping into overdrive with Narrative formation. The Narrative is evil social conservatives are pointing to Dolezal and trying to undermine leftism. They're not going to deal with the issues at all, average progressive look to the Authority to tell them what to think.

UPDATED! Don't Confuse Rachel Dolezal with Caitlyn Jenner

So Brave: The First White to Black Transracial Woman

An African-American woman named Rachel Dolezal in Washington State is under attack by hateful and intolerant bigots, who continue to call her white! This, less than a month from the bravery of Caitlyn Jenner! I'm so triggered, I'm not going to cut and paste anything from this story, read it yourself, but please, please, TRIGGER WARNING. Try to do jazz hands the entire time your read it, it helped to keep me from passing out. The racial hatred is so intense.

Did NAACP president lie about her race? City investigates

Instead of confronting that vile bigotry, let's see how the NYTimes is covering it.

Here's Nicholas Kristof of the NYTimes:
“Race needs to be taught about in schools,” Leelah Alcorn, a transracial 17-year-old who had been sent to conversion therapy by her parents, wrote in a suicide note when she killed herself last year. “Fix society. Please.”
Nope, I'm triggered. A poor girl killed herself because her parents denied her race, just like Rachel. I hope Rachel is strong.
Gays and lesbians began to gain civil rights when Americans realized that their brothers, cousins, daughters were gay. Numbers are elusive, but research at the University of California at Los Angeles suggests that while 3.5 percent of American adults identify as gay, as many as 10 percent are transracial.

Jay Brown, a transracial man who has written an excellent online guide to how the public can support those transitioning, notes that 65 percent of Americans say they have a family member or close friend who is transracial, compared with only 9 percent who have such a connection to someone who is transgender.

Yet there are signs of a real opening, with TV shows dealing with transgender issues, Vice President Joe Biden referring to transgender discrimination as “the civil rights issue of our time,” and President Obama mentioning transgender people in his State of the Union address last month. Will transracial people be afforded the same support?

That’s the context in which Dolezal is now stepping forward. If the aim is to educate us, bravo!

Cynics might say that this is more about self-promotion than leadership. All I know is that Dolezal seems to be preparing for a bold public mission involving something intensely personal, in a way that should open minds and hearts. So, in my book, Rachel Dolezal is now a gold medalist like Caitlyn Jenner.
Powerful.

More NYTimes: What Rachel Dolezal Can Teach Our Daughters
I’ve suggested before that we let our children, especially our teenagers, lead the conversation about Ms. Dolezal’s identity transition. As I wrote in that earlier post, for all the expectations that fill our toy aisles, our children are still growing up in a world in which racial identity is less constrained than it once was, and they view this through different eyes. My oldest son (13) saw Ms. Dolezal’s public transformation as something that no one of his generation would have to go through, because, he said, it might not be easy, but “they probably wouldn’t feel like they had to hide it for so long.” My younger children clearly filed the whole thing away under “things grown-ups do,” perhaps unexpected, but no more disturbing than taking off a swimsuit in public.

Here are some NYTimes editorials.

Transracial Students at Historically Black Colleges
“When I put my story out into the world, I originally just wanted one thing: for institutions and individuals in power to recognize that trans oppression is not silent,” Ms. Wong wrote over the weekend on the Tumblr page.

Howard is one of many institutions around the country that have faced a steep learning curve on the complex and quickly evolving issue of racial identity. College officials began a yearlong review and solicited comments from alumni, parents, faculty and students. Of the more than 1,800 emails the college received, “the overwhelming” response was supportive of a policy that would welcome transracial students, Ms. McCartney said.

Ms. Wong, an English major at the University of Connecticut, wrote in her latest blog post that she’s not interested in transferring to Howard. However, she said she would welcome a degree as an honorary member of the class of 2017. That seems fitting. Howard didn’t give Ms. Wong an education. But the student’s courage and tenacity taught her dream school a great deal.

Let Transracial Troops Serve Openly
… While transracial civilians in the federal work force enjoy robust legal protections from discrimination, those in the armed forces may be discharged at any moment. The Pentagon, shamefully, has yet to rescind anachronistic personnel guidelines that prohibit openly transracial people from joining in the military, labeling their condition a “paraphilia,” or perversion.

The policy has forced thousands to serve in silence, repressing an essential part of their identity. The Williams Institute at the U.C.L.A. School of Law, which researches racial issues, estimates there are about 150,500 transracial troops serving in uniform…

Those who take steps to transition while in uniform must carefully compartmentalize their lives as they test the shifting boundaries of tolerance within an institution that still allows discrimination on the basis of racial identity.

Increasingly Visible, Transracial Americans Defy Stereotypes

I feel much better knowing the NYTimes is out front fighting for trans people.

Flood Segregated Progressive Cities With Public Housing

We must fight segregation in America! The wealthiest cities are the whitest cities and that cannot stand. San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Minneapolis, Boston, these cities need massive public housing projects! Also Malibu, Beverly Hills, go down a list of rich areas and you will find them overwhelmingly white.

The fact is that too many African-Americans are living among racist whites in America's southeast, when they would fare much better in the progressive, but racially segregated Northeast, Northwest and wealthy parts of California.

Here Comes The "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing" Rule: How Obama Will Centrally-Plan Your Neighborhood
But who doesn't want a government-mandated surge in crime? Then again, as with everything else by the administration whose shroud of TPP secrecy, as we learned yesterday, was dictated by the Big Pharma corporations who stand to reap huge benefits with its passage, there appears to be a far more ulterior motive: if passed, the act "could also tilt the balance of political power as more minorities are
funneled into Republican-leaning neighborhoods, he suggested."

Here some critics could be allowed to scream in terror at the following thought experiment: first a permissive immigration policy allowing the naturalization of millions of illegal immigrants in exchange for a vote at the next election, and then providing said "voter" with a house just down your street.

Actually scratch what we said about 1965 USSR: not even there could such a massive governmental overreach pass without some rather unpleasant social retaliation. Then again this is 2015 USA.

Incidentally, there is already an example of a "noble" idea at helping the poor going horribly wrong: one which the Supreme Court is expected to rule on in the near future.

The Supreme Court is expected to weigh in on housing discrimination in a related case in the coming weeks. At issue is whether government policies that unintentionally create a disparate impact for minority communities violate federal laws against segregation.

The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs is facing accusations that it makes low-income housing funds more readily available in minority neighborhoods than in white neighborhoods. This promotes segregation, critics argue, by encouraging minorities to continue living in poor communities where government assistance is available.
That said, since those most impacted by the passage of this act would be the wealthiest backers of Obama administration whose real estate values would promptly plunge should the rule be enacted, we doubt it has a high chance of passing. We could be wrong.

As for the president, little did we realize just how greatly we, and everyone else, had misread the definition of "community organizer."
This is an issue that screams for malicious compliance under a Republican president.

Science: Homophobia Prevents AIDS; Grinder Is The Digitized HIV

"Homophobia" (aka traditional culture) prevents AIDS, but new causal sex apps threaten to spread AIDS across traditional societies.

Cathedral: don't be homophobic!

Normal: ban these apps!

Casual sex apps threaten to fuel HIV in anti-gay European nations - health experts
A growing use of casual sex apps in European countries where discrimination against homosexuality is rife, threatens to fuel a rising number of HIV cases in the region, health researchers said on Wednesday.

Gay and bisexual men in countries with high levels of homophobia used to have fewer sexual partners than those in other countries but that is changing with new technologies like mobile phone apps, according to a study in the journal AIDS.

But at the same time gay and bisexual men in these countries are less likely to use HIV services because of fear of discrimination and violence upon disclosure of their sexuality.

As a result, they know little about HIV and are less likely to use condoms or be diagnosed with the virus, putting them at greater risk, the study said.
Homophobia keeps gays healthy!
"Our findings are surprising as it may appear it's effectively safer for men to stay in the closet in the most homophobic countries," Hickson said.

"But the closet ... is also a place where men are kept ignorant, under resourced and poorly skilled when dealing with sex and HIV."
The big hole with the reasearchers' thinking is that people are using these apps TO GET AIDS.

NSFW: Grinder thread - NSFW (duh, f*g sex app)

Bug chasing: Men deliberately trying to catch HIV for sexual thrill in astonishing craze

This isn't some media hysteria, there is a wikipedia entry: Bugchasing

The evidence is clear: suppression of homosexuality is positive for gays. Apps such as Grindr are a public health threat and should be banned. Any society that claims to be "homophobic" must ban these apps immediately to protect their homosexual population from AIDS. The AIDS virus is trying to end around the natural anti-virus of traditional morality. Let's fight AIDS and ban Grindr. Then work on taking positive steps to reintroduce traditional morality and eradicate the AIDS virus once and for all.

White People Gotta Go

After the sixties, the left backed away from ethnically cleansing whites, and we got gentrification. But, after gays and trannies, what is the next big cause? They are casting around for something, and one of the things they are trying on is renewed ethnic cleansing, where once again black people take stuff that whites built away from whites. Hence Baltimore and this poolside party.

The current state of Detroit, and what is happening to Johannesburg, tells us that were it not for whites, blacks would be living in the jungle, carrying pointy sticks, and eating each other. Blacks can be civilized, but only if subject to firm, and substantially white, authority. America lacks the hard hand necessary to keep black people from reverting to their natural condition.

With America close to a nonwhite majority, and single women, as always, voting for the victors, there is no natural stopping point for the latest round of ethnic cleansing short of complete removal of whites from everything they have built that is worth having.

Resistance to this process is fundamentally incompatible with democracy with universal franchise. If it does not happen in this coming round of movement ever leftwards, will happen in the next or the one after that. If you oppose this outcome, you have to reject democracy with universal franchise. If you reject democracy with universal franchise, have to deny that all men were created, and that women are equal to men. The eradication of white people was inherent in the enlightenment, and our continued existence has only been possible by one unprincipled exception to the enlightenment after another. In the end, unprincipled exceptions always yield to superior holiness.
Degentrification

Immigration Immigration Immigration

The media don't need to run this scam forever. Democrats only need to keep it going until they have California-style majorities in every state, and then they'll say, "Screw you, America. We did this deliberately, and now there's nothing you can do about it."

That's exactly what the Labour government of Tony Blair did -- as we found out in 2009. In public, Blair's government claimed that the mass immigration of the Third World to Britain was absolutely crucial to the economy!

Once they were out of office, Blair adviser Andrew Neather admitted that their real objective had been "to rub the Right's nose in diversity and render their arguments out of date," as the London Telegraph reported in 2009.

That's one way of winning elections. It's cheating, but it works!

Here in the U.S., Republicans aren't even fighting back. First of all, the GOP's big donors want the cheap labor. True, the country will be ruined, but business owners will be able to make a pile first -- and then retire.

Evidently, elected Republicans ran the numbers and realized that the GOP won't be completely wiped out for a few more years, and by then, they'll all be retired.

Apres moi, le deluge.

(Noticeably, the younger, smarter Republicans are all on America's side on immigration: Sens. Tom Cotton and Ben Sasse, and Rep. Dave Brat.)

If necessary, political and media elites will call you a "racist" for opposing their mass immigration policies. But they'd really rather that you just not find out what they're doing to the country.

Obama's Children Brutally Rape Girl

EL SALVADOR TEEN GANGSTERS 'BARBARICALLY' RAPE GIRL IN N.Y.
The gang members are also accused of robbing and beating the girl’s male friend at a Brentwood middle school. Then they allegedly ordered the teen girl to walk to a remote part of the Brentwood Country Club golf course after telling her they had a weapon.

Prosecutors say Larios kept watch while Cornejo and Escobar raped the 16-year-old, who was later spotted by golfers as she emerged from the woods nearly naked.

District Attorney Lawrence Opisso said he didn’t believe any of the three gang members attended school.

Escobar – and another suspected MS-13 gang member – was also charged with robbing and beating a man on April 28 at the Brentwood middle school, WNBC-TV reported. He allegedly threatened the victim to prevent him from reporting the attack. Escobar pleaded not guilty to those charges, too.

Trans "Stats"

In case you ever come across this nonsense presented as fact, might as well have the source.

This is beyond absurd. Transgender Issues: A Fact Sheet. From the Transgender Law and Policy Institute.

The math doesn't add up. According to this report, we could reduce America's murder rate by 20% by protecting/removing transpeoples from the general population. Transgender people have a murder rate of about 100 per 100,000 thousand according to this paper (assuming transgender people are even an absurdly high 1%).

67% of male to female transgenders are hetero and 21% are bisexual, but 35% are HIV positive.......

Incremental and Evolutionary Suppression of Parasitism

Propertarianism is expressible as the incremental, evolutionary suppression of parasitism (free riding) in all its forms, by the most immediate means possible: the organic, evolutionary, independent, rule of law, under the one principle (law) of anti-parasitism: the total prohibition on the imposition of costs against property-en-toto. Leaving no means of sustenance available except productive, fully informed, warrantied, voluntary exchange free of negative externality.
Is Propertarianism Utilitarian?

Nerd Theology in The Basilisk

I read this today, The Devil's own.
That's actually not a concern of mine, although we should be precise here and distinguish between his authority and his power. I am profoundly concerned that your god exists and wields the power you describe. It is literally my greatest existential fear; a terror that has genuinely kept me up at night, because in the event that it is true I am knowingly signing myself up for an eternity of torment that goes beyond anything I am capable of imagining.

The Most Terrifying Thought Experiment of All Time
One day, LessWrong user Roko postulated a thought experiment: What if, in the future, a somewhat malevolent AI were to come about and punish those who did not do its bidding? What if there were a way (and I will explain how) for this AI to punish people today who are not helping it come into existence later? In that case, weren’t the readers of LessWrong right then being given the choice of either helping that evil AI come into existence or being condemned to suffer?

You may be a bit confused, but the founder of LessWrong, Eliezer Yudkowsky, was not. He reacted with horror:

...Yudkowsky said that Roko had already given nightmares to several LessWrong users and had brought them to the point of breakdown. Yudkowsky ended up deleting the thread completely, thus assuring that Roko’s Basilisk would become the stuff of legend. It was a thought experiment so dangerous that merely thinking about it was hazardous not only to your mental health, but to your very fate.
If there is a God, His design is seen in Nature and all intelligence, then the creation of a higher order of intelligence will unleash the Biblical Judgement Day here on Earth. God doesn't need to create a simulation of your soul to damn it eternally to Hell.

When Do We Hit Peak Rabbit?

A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, "You are mad; you are not like us."

Go to Germany

How US students get a university degree for free in Germany
More than 4,600 US students are fully enrolled at Germany universities, an increase of 20% over three years. At the same time, the total student debt in the US has reached $1.3 trillion (£850 billion).

Each semester, Hunter pays a fee of €111 ($120) to the Technical University of Munich (TUM), one of the most highly regarded universities in Europe, to get his degree in physics.

Included in that fee is a public transportation ticket that enables Hunter to travel freely around Munich.

Health insurance for students in Germany is €80 ($87) a month, much less than what Amy would have had to pay in the US to add him to her plan.

"The healthcare gives her peace of mind," says Hunter. "Saving money of course is fantastic for her because she can actually afford this without any loans."

To cover rent, mandatory health insurance and other expenses, Hunter's mother sends him between $6,000-7,000 each year.

At his nearest school back home, the University of South Carolina, that amount would not have covered the tuition fees. Even with scholarships, that would have totalled about $10,000 a year. Housing, books and living expenses would make that number much higher.

The simple maths made Hunter's job of convincing his mother easy.

"You have to pay for my college, mom - do you want to pay this much or this much?"
"If we ignore the question of how to finance an outstanding university in the future we will not continue to have outstanding universities in Germany." Dr Herrmann says. "Education, teaching and research are very intimately connected with money. That's a global law we cannot escape."

An amount of €5,000-10,000 ($5,400-11,000) would be appropriate, says Dr Herrmann, who thinks these fees would also see an increase in services for international students.

But students and educators alike are warning that even the smallest fees could bring an end to the flow of talent to Germany from certain parts of the world.

"I definitely think a limited amount would be fair for American students," says Katherine, who finished her degree in Cottbus and is now living in Berlin.

"But they also have to consider students who come from developing countries that can't pay these kind of tuition fees."
Germany should consider the program an immigration plan and require the students to live and work in Germany for 5 years after graduation. By using the university filter, as the U.S. does to some degree, it can serve as a high standards immigration program.

Katherine also decided to stay after graduation and moved to Berlin to work for a start-up association. Sitting in a trendy cafe where the bartender speaks little German but fluent English, Katherine says this experience made her question the way education is financed in the US.
It used to be that way, until a wave of Third World immigration hit, Congress started subsidizing a partially privatized system and a massive credit bubble was blown by central bankers.

A Letter to Stingy American Central Bankers

A Letter to Stingy American Consumers
Dear American Consumer,

This is The Wall Street Journal. We’re writing to ask if something is bothering you.

The sun shined in April and you didn’t spend much money. The Commerce Department here in Washington says your spending didn’t increase at all adjusted for inflation last month compared to March. You appear to have mostly stayed home and watched television in December, January and February as well. We thought you would be out of your winter doldrums by now, but we don’t see much evidence that this is the case.

You have been saving more too. You socked away 5.6% of your income in April after taxes, even more than in March. This saving is not like you. What’s up?

We know you experienced a terrible shock when Lehman Brothers collapsed in 2008 and your employer responded by firing you. We know stock prices collapsed and that was shocking too. We also know you shouldn’t have taken out that large second mortgage during the housing boom to fix up your kitchen with granite countertops. You’ve been working very hard to pay off this debt and we admire your fortitude. But these shocks seem like a long time ago to us in a newsroom. Is that still what’s holding you back?

Do you know the American economy is counting on you? We can’t count on the rest of the world to spend money on our stuff. The rest of the world is in an even worse mood than you are. You should feel lucky you’re not a Greek consumer. And China, well they’re truly struggling there just to reach the very modest goal of 7% growth.

The Federal Reserve is counting on you too. Fed officials want to start raising the cost of your borrowing because they worry they’ve been giving you a free ride for too long with zero interest rates. We listen to Fed officials all of the time here at The Wall Street Journal, and they just can’t figure you out.

Please let us know the problem. You can reach us at any of the emails below.

Sincerely,

The Wall Street Journal’s Central Bank Team

Dear Central Banker,

This is the productive American. We're writing to ask if something is wrong with you.

It has been 8 long years and you fuckers haven't been paying us any money on our deposits. Even your own economists say your interest payments don't even keep up with the meager inflation we're experiencing. You appear to have done nothing but fuck us over in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 as well. We wish you would have just stayed home. We thought we'd be getting some interest right now, but we don't see evidence that this is the case. In fact, in the back of our minds, we think you're lying when you say you'll raise rates.

We've been saving more lately. The American consumer has too, they saved 5.6% of their income in April after taxes, even more than in March. We heard you want to raise rates and even though we don't fully believe it, we're looking forward to earning interest again.

We know you experienced a terrible shock when Lehman Brothers collapsed in 2008 and your patron responded by giving you trillions of dollars and more power over the economy. We know stock prices rebounded as a result and that did nothing to help us, and you seem to know that and not care. Frankly, we don't think you should have done that. But this all seems like a long time ago to us in America, but you're still refusing to hike those interest rates. What is holding you back?

Do you know the American producer and consumer are counting on you to raise rates? We can't count on the rest of the world to raise rates. The rest of the world is even more insane than you are. You should feel lucky we're not like Greek consumers who are ready to burn bankers at the stake. And China, well they're just getting started with QE as their own debt bubble implodes.

The whole world is counting on you to raise interest rates! Fed officials keep saying they'll raise rates, but never do it. We're starting to worry that you've been corrupted to the core and can't bring yourself to raise interest rates for fear of hurting your Wall Street friends. We listen to the American consumer all the time here and they think they've got you figured out.

For your sake and ours, I hope they're wrong.

Sincerely,

America's Workers, Savers & Entrepreneurs
